Within San Francisco’s Four Seasons Private Residences, a richly layered interior balances polished surfaces with tactile textures, bespoke details with quiet comfort, and moments of glamour with an effortless sense of ease—all composed around sweeping views of the bay.

Reflective surfaces and tactile materials create a deliberate tension throughout the living spaces, balancing refinement with a sense of ease. Glass, stone, leather, soft textiles, and gilded finishes introduce texture and warmth while allowing the expansive bay views to remain the defining presence.

What began as the transformation of a single powder room evolved into a broader reimagining of the residence—one guided by a desire to create a more personal expression of contemporary living. Throughout the home, moments of glamour are tempered by warmth and restraint, creating interiors that feel sophisticated yet deeply comfortable.

The powder room set the tone for what followed. Drawing inspiration from French Art Deco interiors, gold landscape wallpaper envelops the intimate space, while a hand-beveled lead-crystal and gold vessel rests atop a custom fluted-ebony vanity designed by Bjorn Design. Hand-forged brass hardware, Waterworks fixtures, and a bespoke mirror heighten the sense of detail and discovery, transforming a utilitarian room into an immersive and highly considered interior.

In the main living spaces, furnishings and architectural interventions were conceived in direct response to the residence and its extraordinary setting. A custom sofa spanning the width of the living room discreetly conceals neighboring HVAC units while creating a generous, uninterrupted composition oriented toward the bay. Burl wood, marble, cast glass, woven leather, and gilded finishes lend depth and luminosity, while cashmere, wool, and other tactile textiles bring softness to the more polished elements.

The same attention to detail continues into the residence’s private spaces, where the palette becomes quieter and more restrained. Richly textured wallcoverings and carefully considered finishes give each room its own character, while elements such as shou sugi ban introduce an organic counterpoint. From the jewel-like powder room to the expansive living areas and private retreats, each space offers its own expression while remaining connected to the light, materiality, and ever-present views that define the residence.
